How to Convert Video (mp4) to Audio (Mp3) Using VLC

Converting Videos to audio format is what we find ourself doing most of the time, especially when we watch interesting music clips and soundtracks and most times; we do consume data in doing these or at most use third-party apps for making the conversions.

What if I show you how to easily extract high-quality audio from your video files or let me say Convert mp4 files to mp3 files offline without mobile data on the VLC media player.

Interestingly, most of us use VLC for watching films on our mobile and PCs, so this should be a great recommendation for us all, you can also save audio files as  WAV, FLAC or OGG extensions but we'll be dealing with MP3 extension for this post.

The conversion also reduces the size of the video file as it changes to audio. This works without the use of additional apps, all you need is VLC Media installed on your device and then you can proceed with the next steps;

To Convert Video (mp4) to Audio (Mp3) Using VLC Media Player;

  • Launch VLC media either through playing a video or opening the app
  • Click on Media > Convert/Save {CTRL + R}
  • Click on Add [You can add as many video files as you want]
  • Scroll to Profile under settings and select Audio – MP3
  • Hit Browse to select a destination filename
  • Please, do make sure to change the file name to ensure yourself a perfect conversion.
  • Click Save.

The conversion will start immediately you click on Save; you'll notice via the player progress slider, once the progress slider reaches the end then you can navigate to your selected file location and access your MP3 file.

Video Tutorial

 The conversion from video to audio is not just limited to MP3 format. You must have noticed other formats in the convert dialogue. The profiles that come by default are Vorbis (OGG), FLAC and CD. You can also select WAV as the encapsulation in the conversion profile editor. There are also several audio codecs like MPEG Audio, MPEG 4 Audio (AAC), A52/AC-3, Vorbis, Flac, Opus, Speex and WMA2. These are advanced audio formats and just MP3 would be enough for most of us.

The converted Mp3 file can now be easily copied to your smartphone, PC, music player or any other mobile audio-playing device
